LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Blended Learning

The lifeguard training course equips participants with the essential knowledge and skills to recognize and prevent aquatic emergencies in both shallow and deep water, as well as to respond to them effectively.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding (including deep water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid, which is valid for 2 years.

  • Minimum age: 15 years
  • Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence:
    • Jump into the water, submerge, and resurface.
    • Swim 150 yards (front crawl, breaststroke, or both).
    • Tread water for 2 minutes (legs only).
    • Swim 50 yards (front crawl, breaststroke, or both).
  • Complete in 1 minute 40 seconds:
    • Start in the water and swim 20 yards.
    • Surface dive (7-12 feet) and retrieve a 10-pound object.
    • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back (holding the object).
    • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

LIFEGUARD RECERTIFICATION

Blended Learning

An abbreviated lifeguard training course designed to quickly review key course information and provide valuable opportunities to practice essential skills and knowledge before taking the final exam. To participate in this review course, students must hold a current Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification.  Successful completion of this course will result in a certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, which is valid for two years.

To recertify, the following certifications are required for this course: 

  • Red Cross Lifeguarding
  • First Aid
  • CPR/AED

Certifications must be within 30 days of the expiration date.

CPR + AED

Blended Learning

The CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer teaches professional-level rescuers how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children, and infants until more advanced medical personnel arrive. Subsequently, participants who successfully complete this course receive an American Red Cross certificate for CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, valid for 2 years. Furthermore, this class utilizes a blended learning format, requiring participants to complete an online portion (accessible via mobile, desktop, or tablet) before attending the instructor-led skills session.

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR (WSI)

Blended Learning

This course, also known as WSI™, trains American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor candidates to teach Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety courses and presentations. In doing so, candidates develop a strong understanding of course materials, training session conduct, and participant evaluation. Consequently, they become qualified to teach a wide range of courses and presentations, including Parent and Child Aquatics Levels 1 and 2, Preschool Aquatics Levels 1-3, Learn-to-Swim Levels 1-6, three adult courses, Basic Water Rescue, Personal Water Safety, and more.

Instructor candidates must be at least 16 years of age on or before the last day of the course. Additionally, they must successfully complete the precourse, which includes a demonstration of swimming skills at Learn-to-Swim Level 4.
